The original site of the city, Old Noto (Noto Antica) it’s 8 km to the north ( of Noto), on the Alveria mount. Here, are been discovered the first human settlements which date back to the Old Bronze Age (XVIII- XV century b.C), as the archaeological finds testify. According to a plausible legend, Noto was founded by a leader of the Sikels called Ducetius. The Sicilian commander difended “Neas”(the name of the Old Noto) from the Hellenic raids in the V century b.C, and then moved the city from Mendola to the nearby Alveria mount; this latter was surrounded by deep valleys and in one of these flowed the river of Noto. Cesare Brandi defined Noto “ Rocky Garden” where, in any corner you can find capitals, Baroques friezes, churches, nobiliary palaces and other architectural beauties. All these pieces of arts arouse visitors’enthusiasm.
