The Vendicari Natural Reserve

The Vendicari reserve is one of the few places in which it is possible to observe the splendour of the typical Mediterranean maquis and it is surrounded by archaeological pearls. Having a walk into the reserve you can admire wonderful landscapes such as the swedish castle of the XV century, the fishermen houses, the factories for fish processing and the eighteenth-century tunny-fishing net with its high chimney which watches over the protected area. All these buildings bring us back to the past when the surrounding coast gave hospitality to one of the most important port in Syracuse. Getting near the sea you have the possibility to see beautiful beaches and cliffs.
The spring landscape is a real explosion of colours: from the green of the palms and the mostic trees to the yellow of the broom and the chrysanthemum; from the red of the poppies to the violet of the thyme, the blue of the iris and the white of the sea lily. It’s very easy to enter the Reserve.The 3 entrances are situated along the state-road Noto- Pachino to the North, the South and the Centre; towards “Vendicari Tower” (torre di Vendicari).
