CAVAGRANDE RESERVE
OF CASSIBILE RIVER
Like a diamond set in a jewel, the Reserve stands between Avola,
Noto and Syracuse in a real Earthly Paradise; an historical,
archaeological and naturalistic heritage of incommensurable
significance. It’s been defined as “ the Iblei’s navel”. A
limestone canyon where everybody can regain the pleasure to
contemplate the beauties of nature: flora ( plane tree, willow,
oleander, ivy, fern, etc...); fauna ( dragonflies, colourful
butterflies, edgehogs, foxes, blackcaps, cuckoos, kestrels etc...);
geomorphological aspects (giant’s kettles, erosive cracks,
marvellous pools “Marie”); archaeological aspects ( Byzantine
village, necropolis of Cassibile, “Brigand’s cave” la Grotta dei
briganti ). There are lots of paths that give you the
possibility to enter the Reserve and visit each part of it, from
the valley “Manghisi” to the river mouth.
The Reserve is wonderful, anyone will appreciate it: from who
loves to have carefree walks to the person who prefers trekking;
from that people very fond of the bottom of the valley to those
that instead prefer the mount view; from the visitors who prefer
the naturalistic aspects to those who want to discover the
archaeological beauties. |
